OKX options markets are now live through Talos, in both linear and inverse form, with order book connectivity and market data alongside execution.
Arkady Gavrilov, Senior Institutional Manager at OKX, and Kyle Downey, Head of Product Strategy at Talos, discussed what institutional options demand looks like on both sides of the integration, where listed order books support size, and what cross-venue options execution asks of infrastructure.

How institutional desks are using crypto options
Perpetual futures still account for most volume at OKX. Options activity concentrates in three patterns: desks hedging perp exposure with options, desks whose strategy is the options position itself including structures such as iron condors, and high net worth individuals trading episodically.
Talos sees a comparable range, from discretionary protection traded once or twice a month across listed and OTC, to options market making, to options income strategies run in SMA structures.
Inverse, linear and portfolio margin
OKX lists European options in both forms. Institutional demand skews heavily to inverse, settled in BTC or ETH, because most of these clients trade under portfolio margin mode with BTC as the underlying across both their perps and their options.
Portfolio margin replaces separate margin calculations with unified collateral and a unified liability. OKX supported it for perpetual futures before this launch. Delta-neutral clients also receive auto-deleveraging deprioritization and increased auto-borrowing capacity.
Linear options settle in USD and several stablecoins, with availability varying by jurisdiction. Both forms are accessible through Talos.
Listed liquidity versus OTC
OKX positions its options liquidity around short-dated expiries. Within roughly a month, in BTC and ETH inverse contracts, order book depth is supported by both retail participation and institutional market makers.
Past that boundary the market changes character. Deep out-of-the-money strikes, expiries two or three months out, and orders large enough to move the screen are facilitated OTC and sourced manually. Tail coin volatility sits in the same place, alongside the exotics.
"Crypto is very much weighted toward the front end. People are not comfortable with the risk too far out." ‒ Kyle Downey
Listed and OTC are not alternative channels for the same trade. Size and expiry determine which one is available.
The delta leg
Even a desk that fills its full options position on one venue may need to work the delta hedge elsewhere, to capture a pricing differential or to express the position at size.
"You might have been right on vol, and then get run over on delta." ‒ Kyle Downey
Talos runs integrated delta hedging through its smart order router, sourcing spot across exchanges and across quotes in multiple stablecoins. Options contracts are not fungible between exchanges, but multi-leg orders can incorporate more than one venue where a client is expressing an arbitrage view.
Connecting an OKX account to Talos
Exchange onboarding is self-service: a client generates an API key with trading permissions and options segment access, then binds it to an account. A key can be bound to a specific logical account, routing a named strategy such as a covered call programme to OKX automatically. Talos is API-first, so market data, order placement, smart order routing and algos are all available programmatically on the same connection.
Eligibility at OKX depends on the client's country of incorporation. Some jurisdictions permit derivatives but not options, and linear options availability is further restricted by region.
Clients already connected to Talos can reach their account manager to enable OKX options. Firms not yet on the platform can contact sales@talos.com.
